I recently had the pleasure of checking out happy hour at one of Austin’s newer restaurants, L’Oca D’Oro in Mueller. Their Happy Hour has been revamped with a new bar menu and special discounts available in the bar and patio areas: 50% off bar menu items including cocktails, snacks and liters of wine on tap.
I tried the LD Caipirinha, and was comparing it to the many caipirinhas I drank on a recent trip to Brazil. This one did not disappoint. We also enjoyed a carafe of a Cabernet-Franc wine for only $10 on the happy hour discount. The small bowls of fried chickpeas are a must-order – they are pretty much addictive. I really enjoyed the Fritto Misto, with its lightly fried and perfectly cooked shrimp, smelts and onion; and the lemon aioli served with it was delicious. The accompanying Meatballs were hearty, although I found them a bit dry. They were saved by the tomato jam that comes with the dish – this was truly delicious, and the meatballs would have been better served with more of that tomato deliciousness.
Weekday happy hour from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
For weekend brunch L’Oca D’Oro Chef Fiore Tedesco has added several new food and drink items. These include the Garlic Sausage with cheesy polenta, fried brussels sprouts and salsa verde, the Mushroom Toast with smashed avocado on seeded sourdough, and the Rye and Shine with George Dickel Rye, LD coffee nocino and cream.
